Francis Cafe Almost Ready

The French restaurant formerly known as 718, now called Francis Cafe is currently making great progress and putting on the finishing touches to this huge cafe.  The owners, the same owners from 718, are in the process of completing the beautiful renovation that involved expanding the space quite a bit.

You never know how long these renovations can take, but I am really anxious to check this place out.  Soon we’ll have a good French cafe in Astoria!

Does anyone remember the delicious French Restaurant on Broadway and 45th St that closed a few years back?  At that time they had the best brunch in town…

Hellgate On The Park Changes Hands

A friend just tipped me off that  “Hellgate on the Park ” (named after the beautiful Hellgate Bidge), the bar located at 1919  Ditmars Blvd, just west of 21st St, is under new ownership.  Situated within view of Astoria Park and the Hellgate bridge, it’s the closest bar to Astoria Park and in fact, it is one of the only ones in that area.  The new owner is planning sink some money into it to completely renovate it.  The space features a backyard garden as well.  I absolutely love the location and I’m anxious to check out the new space once they finish.

Update: According to a source in the business the new owner owns a few successful Irish bars in Manhattan and plans do something similar with the space.
