Matt was looking for a studio but wound up with a 1 bedroom and still came in under budget. With a max price of $1200 per month, he was not expecting to find a true one bedroom. He was mistaken.
Originally I planned on showing Matt about 4 apartments but we wound up seeing only two and he ended up choosing the first one. I would have shown him more but I had this great rent stabilized one bedroom for only $1150 in a clean and quiet bldg. The top floor apartment was bright and had more than enough space for what Matt needed. The windows had just been all changed and the owners were in the process of cleaning and re-grouting the bathroom. Check out the link here for some photos of Matt’s new apartment.
We did actually view another apartment near 28th Ave and 41st St that was not as appropriate, but as we walked and talked on the way, I noticed that Matt made several references to legendary comics George Carlin and Steven Wright. Not only did he refer to them but he was quoting them and was obviously very passionate about comedy. Turns out Matt is a comedian himself. He had me laughing all the way back to the first apartment with his impersonations and stories. Matt, if you are reading this, I still laugh when I picture you talking like elmo at the dinner table on a first date with the stuck up girl.
Just as I suspected, Matt took the 1st apartment we looked at. It was just perfect and he wasn’t going to let it get taken by someone else. A deposit was taken (to be applied towards the security deposit if accepted) and a meeting was to be set up with the Joanne, the landlord. Fast forward a little and Matt now has a new lease in his first Astoria apartment. A place where he will be able to study for his finals next month and work on his comedy routine in peace.
